Board Candidate Training

To build and sustain a great system of schools in the nation’s capital, we know we must also build a network of stewards committed to sustainable education reform.  CityBridge Foundation’s Board Candidate Training program matches talented individuals with the local education-focused nonprofits and charter schools most likely to generate substantial progress for our city’s youth.

Designed to educate, inspire and equip talented individuals for nonprofit board or committee service in the DC education sector, Board Candidate Training caters to individuals new to board service.  Our program consists of three main components:

1. Day-Long Training.  A full-day training provides instruction on board governance, responsibilities, management and fundraising, as well as insight into and exposure to the education sector.  The day offers an in-depth exploration of the public education landscape in DC, expert speakers and board alumni from the nonprofit and charter school space, experiential learning, a nonprofit site visit, and a "Meet and Greet" reception with organizations seeking board members.

2. Personal Match.  CityBridge staff work individually with each candidate to determine interests, suggest potential organizations, help with the vetting process and make introductions to DC organizations whose needs match the candidate’s skills and interests.

3. Ongoing Support.  CityBridge serves as an ongoing resource to participants after placement by reconvening alumni for “2.0” trainings and best-practice sharing on governance and education issues.
