CityBridge Health is the foundation’s historical portfolio of (mostly international) health interventions.

Originally conceived in 1995 as a nonprofit arm of The Advisory Board, a for-profit best-practices research company, CityBridge Health comprised projects in the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, a joint venture with the Listening Center at John’s Hopkins University Hospital, and various (still ongoing) projects supporting and disseminating vocal cord research and best practices.

Our health work was always structured as joint ventures with existing organizations on the ground: We provided full- or part-time staff, technical and financial support, and an intellectual framework for sustainability. CityBridge Health has never been a grantmaker, in a traditional sense, and most of our projects are now thriving and sustainable, long beyond our early, start-up support.

Although at the present time, CityBridge Health is on “hold” as an active practice area, we suspect we will be back in this space, with renewed commitment, at some point in the future.
