The Advisory Board Company makes it easy for staff to volunteer: Each employee may use 10 hours of paid time each month to volunteer during the workday. In 2006 nearly 80% of the firm participated in service at least one time.

Atlantic Media Company is a family of media properties whose purpose is to inform and elevate the national discourse. Three flagship publications—The Atlantic Monthly, National Journal, and Government Executive—are sources of insight and analysis for America’s “leadership class.”

In an effort to promote skills-based volunteerism, the company has developed a unique partnership with the Urban Alliance Foundation, working one-on-one with high school seniors on their college essays. In addition, as a response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Atlantic Media employees worked with the faculty and students at a school in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana to design and publish a yearbook that documented their year of recovery.

CapitalSource joined ServiceCorps as a corporate partner in September 2006. During the first four months, nearly 25 CapitalSource teams served the community through various projects. In one example, fifteen staff from one team spent a day clearing a trail and building an exercise path in Marvin Gaye Park in Ward 7.

Corporate Executive Board hosts an annual in-house Board Service Training Program for senior staff as one element of their service. The group spends a half-day together learning from the nonprofit sector’s most respected practitioners including Billy Shore, Founder and Executive Director of Share our Strength, and Chris Murphy, Executive Director of City Year Washington, DC.
